{"id":11217,"date":"2026-07-23T08:03:25","date_gmt":"2026-07-23T08:03:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/srms.ac.in\/ims\/?p=11217"},"modified":"2026-07-23T08:03:25","modified_gmt":"2026-07-23T08:03:25","slug":"successfully-performed-in-bareilly-kumaon-region-at-srms-institute-of-medical-sciences","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/srms.ac.in\/ims\/successfully-performed-in-bareilly-kumaon-region-at-srms-institute-of-medical-sciences\/","title":{"rendered":"SUCCESSFULLY PERFORMED in BAREILLY-KUMAON REGION at SRMS INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Breaking barriers in cardiac care, <strong>SRMS Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), Bareilly<\/strong> has successfully performed the <strong>first-of-its-kind<\/strong> highly complex life-saving procedure <strong>Retrograde Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO) Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) to the Left Anterior Descending (LAD) artery<\/strong>, in <strong>Bareilly-Kumaon Region<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The intervention was expertly carried out by <strong>Dr Deepesh Kumar Agarwal, Professor, Department of Cardiology<\/strong>, <strong>a Senior Interventional Cardiologist,<\/strong> strengthening SRMS IMS\u2019s position as a regional leader in advanced tertiary cardiac care and reducing the need for patients to travel to metro cities for complex interventions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A Critical Case, An Advanced Solution<br \/>\n<\/strong>The patient, Rajendra from Lakhimpur, had been undergoing treatment at multiple centres for nearly three months without a definitive solution. He was diagnosed with a <strong>chronic total occlusion<\/strong>, a complete blockage of the LAD artery. In such cases, conventional angioplasty often fails, leaving bypass surgery (CABG) as the only option. But Dr Deepesh Agarwal adopted the highly skilled <strong>retrograde approach<\/strong>, navigating through septal collaterals from the Right Coronary Artery (RCA) to access the blocked LAD and restored blood flow successfully.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A Life Saved Without Bypass Surgery<br \/>\n<\/strong>The procedure eliminated the need for open-heart bypass surgery. Blood circulation was restored, surgical risks were avoided, recovery was faster, and the patient\u2019s life was saved.
