‘MANAGING MOVIES, MASTERING MANAGEMENT: SRMS MBA STUDENTS LEARN OPERATIONS THE BOLLYWOOD WAY!

What if classroom lessons met the magic of cinema? That’s exactly what happened at SRMS College of Engineering & Technology (CET), Bareilly, where MBA first-year students got a fresh perspective on Operations Management—thanks to a dynamic guest lecture by SRMS Alumnus Debayan Bhattacharya (BTech, Batch 1998-2002), now Vice President of Operations, Kaygen Inc., Noida.
Based on the theme, ‘Operations Management in Cinema’, Debayan, a seasoned operations and HR leader, connected real-world management principles with iconic Bollywood moments. Students were captivated as he unpacked how movies reflect business realities:
- Lagaan – Resource allocation, team synergy, strategic planning
- Chak De! India – Motivation, leadership, and process optimization
- Baahubali – Supply chain logistics and large-scale execution
- Dangal – Goal setting, performance metrics, and continuous improvement
However, the session didn’t stop at theory. Students took part in a live group activity—designing an operations workflow for a mock product launch. They applied concepts like process mapping, resource allocation, and risk management in a fun, competitive setup. The takeaway of the session was ‘management isn’t just in textbooks; it’s all-aroundus. This session proved how storytelling and strategic thinking can go hand in hand to shape tomorrow’s business leaders.
