INDIA’S DAILY WAIT FOR ORGANS: SRMS INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES RISES TO THE CAUSE ON 15TH INDIAN ORGAN DONATION DAY

With over 20 lives lost every day due to a lack of organ donors, the need for awareness is more urgent than ever. On 15th Indian Organ Donation Day, SRMS Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), Bareilly launched a dynamic awareness campaign under the theme ‘Angdaan – Jeevan Sanjeevani Abhiyan’, in collaboration with NOTTO (National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation).

Spearheaded by Departments of Community Medicine, Ophthalmology, Nephrology & Transfusion Medicine, the initiative went beyond education, urging people to pledge & save lives.

The campaign featured awareness talks & grassroots drives at Dhaura Tanda’s Urban (UHTC) and Rural Health & Training Centres (RHTC). At UHTC, Dr Priyanka, Dr RC Gupta, Dr Payal & MBBS interns addressed 45+ participants, busting myths around organ donation. At RHTC, Dr Ruchi Arun, Dr Preeti, and team led a heartfelt conversation with villagers on leaving behind a legacy of compassion.

A Pledge Drive at SRMS Vardaan Centre, led by Dr Rupali Gupta (Assistant Professor, Community Medicine), John (PRO), and interns guided OPD patients through the pledge process on NOTTO website, turning awareness into action. Meanwhile, SRMS Mobile Telemedicine Bus reached Nawabganj, where interns conducted community sessions using simple, relatable examples to demystify donation. In adopted village of Atapatti Janubi, a health camp under Dr Rupali’s supervision saw 239 patients, 11 RBS tests & digital pledge promotions to motivate people to donate organs.

The campaign concluded with a powerful street play by MBBS Batch 2023, performed in Atapatti Janubi, breaking myths & fears around organ donation, reinforcing one truth, “Every pledge is a second chance at life.”
