Anaesthesiology "Life without Pain"- forms the moto of the department of anaesthesiology, critical care and pain medicine of SRMS-IMS which constitutes as one of the largest departments of this institution. Comprising of 11 faculty and 1 consultant, the department imparts M.D. Specialized in BLS and ACLS skills, our postgraduate students are the first responders and often the torchbearers in the code blue teams. The department is equipped with state of art anaesthesia workstation, equipments and instruments viz, fibreoptic bronchoscope, video laryngoscope, ultrasonography machine and other lifesaving equipment.
Apart from the closed walks of the operating room, anaesthesia facility is also extended to virtually all other clinical departments e.g., Radiodiagnosis, interventional radiology, Cath lab and ICCU, Code Blue,IVF, EBUS etc. Over the last year we have provided anaesthesia services to a record of number of over 7000 patients, posted for various specialty and super speciality surgical procedures including high-risk surgeries e.g.; cardiothoracic and vascular surgeries, Onco-surgeries, Urological procedures and Neuro surgeries & Renal Transplant. The number of post graduate seats have been increased from 6 to 14 students undergoing training presently. We also run a pain clinic catering to patients of chronic and cancer pain.
The various other areas in which the department is providing ‘standard of care’ are:
Fiberoptic bronchoscopy for difficult intubation.
USG guided nerve blocks for therapeutic purposes.
C-arm guided nerve blocks for pain management.
High end surgeries - including one lung ventilation.
Outside OT care to - Radio diagnosis suite, Cath - lab, IVF lab, Radiotherapy Suite, Pain Clinic, ICU.
