GIFT OF SIGHT: SRMS INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES MARKS NATIONAL EYE DONATION FORTNIGHT (from August 25-September 8) WITH A CALL TO PLEDGE
One donor. Two lives. Endless light. That’s the powerful message SRMS Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), Bareilly is spreading as it observes the 40th National Eye Donation Fortnight from August 25 to September 8, 2025.
The Cornea Transplant Centre & Eye Bank at SRMS IMS is driving the campaign with the simple but life-changing idea that when one person pledges their eyes, two people can see the world again. This fortnight not only honors the noble spirit of eye donors but also reminds us of the urgent need to fight corneal blindness in India.
At SRMS IMS, the awareness drive is taking shape through interactive sessions, impactful nukkad nataks, and community outreach, urging people to open their hearts and pledge their eyes. It’s about inspiring conversations in families, neighborhoods, and friend circles so that the “Gift of Sight” spreads far and wide. In a special message, Dr Neelima Mehrotra, Professor & Head, Department of Ophthalmology, shares how countless patients battling corneal blindness have regained vision thanks to corneal transplants. She emphasizes a profound truth, ‘one eye donation can restore sight to more than two lives.’.
SRMS IMS calls on everyone to take this small but powerful step: pledge your eyes, encourage others, and together move closer to a future where corneal blindness is no longer a barrier to life!
