The Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, SRMSIMS is a well-furnished and established department for Under Graduate Teaching of MBBS course and also having facilities for Post Graduate teaching of M.D in Forensic Medicine under the guidance of highly skilled faculty members. Department is currently having 3 post-graduate seats recognized by NMC.
The department was founded to achieve the following objectives:
-To promote for the public benefit the advancement of education and knowledge in the field of forensic and legal medicine.
-To develop and maintain for the public benefit the good practice of forensic and legal medicine by ensuring the highest professional standards of competence and ethical integrity.
-To produce a physician who is well versed with medicolegal responsibility and ethical problems in practice of medicine in this era of consumer awareness.
Highlights of department include:
State of the Art Mortuary with updated infrastructure for storage of dead bodies and autopsies.
Research laboratory with equipment for macroscopic examination of articles of Forensic significance and writing of expert opinions.
The "Newly built museum according to the NMC requirement" is richly stocked with specimens, toxins, photographs, models and charts, giving an instant insight to the student about the functioning of the department.
Fully fledged facilities for performing examination of clinical forensic medicine cases.
The departmental activities are divided into teaching, research and medico-legal services. The teaching is done both in the department/college as well as the students are taken for educative trip to hospital and courtroom.
The department regularly conducts CMEs and Conferences which have active participation of Under Graduate students and post-graduate students. This helps in early development of managerial skills and advanced knowledge in students.
The Department of Forensic Medicine also provides invaluable help in the Emergency Department by assisting in the medicolegal examination of cases with a legal. implication brought to the hospital.
The department is also actively involved in research in various fields of forensic medicine and toxicology.
