The Department of Microbiology is fully equipped with state of art diagnostic equipment's, infrastructure, sub- laboratories and delivering its services in the field of Bacteriology, Mycobacteriology, Molecular Microbiology, Virology, Serology, Immunology, Mycology & Parasitology. On one side the bacteriology lab is equipped with the facility of Automated culture including I/D & AST by VITEK Automated system, Co2 incubator and Automated blood culture system FX40, while on the other side Mycobacteriology lab is equipped with BSL III safety cabinet for Mycobacterium tuberculosis liquid culture by MGIT 960 & 320 and Molecular detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis with rifampicin resistance by PCR system.
Our Mycobacteriology laboratory is empanelled under NTEP program of Government of India for follow-up liquid culture for Mycobacterium tuberculosis where we received patient's samples from 16 designated districts of Uttar Pradesh for the diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis. Our Mycobacteriology laboratory is an U-DST lab which is again accredited by Government of Uttar Pradesh under NTEP program. Again the same lab is equipped with fluorescent microscopy for diagnosis of Pulmonary tuberculosis under NTEPprogram of Government of India.
The molecular lab is having the facility of conventional PCR, RT PCR and close system PCR that is True NAT Quattro. These machines are regularly utilized for the diagnosis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, HPV, HBV, HCV, Leprosy, Malaria & Fungal infections and their quantitative load. The plans for the future is to upgrade the department by installation of Bio-Fire for early detection of infectious agents from CSF, Stool, Upper respiratory tract, lower respiratory tract, Blood etc.
The Department boasts of automated equipment like BACTEC Blood culture, VITEK Automation culture & sensitivity with MIC determinate, MGIT 960 for TB liquid culture & sensitivity & Fluorescent Microscopy apart from all conventional techniques of a standard Mycobacteriological lab.
Sophisticated Immunological tests like Pro-calcitonin estimate for severe septic shock patient, Serum IgE testing for Atopypatients, Hepatitis ‘e’ antigen detection for acute viral replication& Infectivity detection & Anti core antibody detection for chronic Hepatitis ‘B’ patients apart from all ELISA tests forHep B, HepC, HIV, Dengue patients are being done.
At the molecular level, diagnosis of TB, Malaria, Dengue, HPV, Fungal detection in corneal ulcer & keratitis cases, BAL fluid are being performed.Plans for the future include Gene X-pert for detection of resistant Mycobacterium and RT PCR based diagnosis for Hepatitis, HIV, Dengue, Swine flu, Chikungunya virus etc.
