The Department of obstetrics and gynaecology has been an integral part of SRMSIMS since its inception and has been practicing evidence-based management from puberty to menopause We cater quality healthcare services for a women hailing from Rohilkhand region, Uttarakhand, Nepal and 200 km of periphery. A department provides a platform for teaching and training of medical undergraduates, interns, post graduates and PDCC students. We are the nodal department and regional resource centre to build the capacity of doctors serving at first point of contact FRUS (CHC and PHC) and DWH (district women hospital) under RRTC programme. This is a unique project wherein on-site and on job clinical mentoring of doctors for delivery of quality CEmONC services is done. The panel of expert gynaecologists and obstetricians are available round the clock in the department to serve patients. Our OPD complex is equipped with colposcopy, CTG machine, 3D-USG facility, LBC, sample collection, VIP visitors' room, nutritional assessment, counselling, and day, care facilities. In day-care, the medical termination of pregnancy, cancer screening, infertility evaluation, fetal assessment, gestosis score, contraception and dietary advice and provided. Counselling sessions is the routine of our department.
Facilities available
Gynaecological service to all age women with the state of art facility and under guidance of expert doctors is being imparted by us . Apart from routine gynaecological, surgeries, complex surgeries, including gynaecological mal ignancies and laparoscopy, hysteroscopy sacro-colpopexy, vault suspension, uterine artery ligation, internal iliac ligation, septoplasty unification surgeries are also being performed.
High-risk obstetrics such as near miss, placenta accreta spectrum, eclampsia, IVF pregnancy, RPL, pregnancies complicated by heart and kidney diseases are being managed in collaboration with other specialties under one roof. The facilities of painless delivery and delivery suites are functional in labour room complex. In the labour room premises there is a facility of NICU, Nursery and operation theatre.
SMSIMS IVF centre is one-of-a-kind for being compliant to ARTAct 2021 and providing pregnancy rate of more than 80%. SRMS-IVF centre is equipped to maintain high-quality intra laboratory environment for embryo culture. Senior IVF specialist along with round-the-clock embryologist, to make this IVF centre one of its kind. The Centre has the facility of advanced semen analysis, VOC meter, triple gas incubator, cryo- tank. Fertility preservation facility for cancer survivors and single couple is also available. We are providing services to couples with poor ovarian reserve of rejuvenating endometrium and Ovary with PRP installation under hysteron- laparoscopic guidance. Moreover IVF pregnancies are being taken care of until delivery and beyond. Recently, we have added facilities for Social Egg Freezing in IVF-lab.
Fetal Medicine -
Our Fetal Medicine Speciality provide following Services -
- Prenatal Screening and Diagnosis: Our specialists use advanced imaging techniques to monitor the growth and development of the fetus throughout pregnancy. Prenatal screening and diagnostic tests, including genetic screening and testing, to help identify potential fetal abnormalities or genetic conditions.
- High-Risk Pregnancy Management: Crucial in managing high-risk pregnancies. These may include pregnancies with maternal health conditions, multiple pregnancies (twins, triplets, etc.), fetal growth restriction, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, or other complications that may affect the health of the mother or the baby.
- Fetal Therapy and Intervention: Involves therapeutic interventions to address specific fetal conditions or anomalies. Fetal therapy includes procedures such as fetal blood transfusion, intrauterine surgery, or the placement of shunts to manage certain fetal conditions.
- Fetal Echocardiography: Ultrasound examination evaluates the fetal heart's structure and function, enabling the early detection and management of congenital heart defects.
- Genetic Counseling: Counsel parents when fetal abnormalities or genetic conditions are identified. They offer information and support to help parents understand the implications of the diagnosis and make informed decisions regarding their pregnancy and the care of the baby.
- Preventive Care for Future Pregnancies: Work closely with patients who have experienced pregnancy complications or fetal anomalies to provide guidance and preventive care for future pregnancies.
Reproductive Medicine & IVF Centre -
The department has a dedicated specialized unit of Reproductive Medicine which encompasses a wide range of treatments and surgical procedures aimed at addressing infertility and other reproductive health issues in both men and women. These interventions include medical therapies, surgical interventions, and assisted reproductive technologies (ART).

- Surgical Procedures:-Laparoscopy and Hysteroscopy, Laparotomy Microsurgery, Varicocelectomy, Surgical Sperm Retrieval , Reversal of Vasectomy, Fertility Preservation Surgeries

Gynae Oncology -
The Department has a dedicated GynaecologySpeciality unit which provide following services -
- Gynaeonco surgeries (Open, Laparoscopic, Robotic).
- Preventive Gynae Oncology services (Cancer screening & HPV Vaccination)
- Fertility-preserving and fertility-enhancing surgeries, Onco fertility services
- Genetic Counseling & Hereditary Cancer Clinic
The unit has highly skilled, accomplished and dedicated Gynecologist and Gynae-Oncosurgeon with over 20 years of experience in providing comprehensive women's health care.
The other speciality services includes - Genital Fistulas (VVF/RVF) and other Uro-gynae (sling/ colpo-suspension)surgeries.
Several special clinics are being run, namely, High Risk pregnancy clinic, Cancer screening/Hormone Replacement therapy/Menopausal clinic, Infertility & Endocrinology clinic and Family Welfare clinic.
In addition to the hectic undergraduate and postgraduate training programmes, the department also offers several advanced facilities to the patients such as Colposcopy, Intranatal monitoring with Cardiotopography, Follicular studies, Laparoscopy and Urogynaecology.
A world class IVF & ICSI centre has been established, first in this region, the results of which are very encouraging.
