The department of neurology started functioning as an independent department at SRMS IMS in the year 2010 since then the department has made a steady progress and is now offering round the clock emergency and in-patient and outpatient services at a very nominal cost. During the year 2023 more than 27,000 OPD cases were seen in the neurology OPD and more than 1000 cases of neurology emergencies were admitted from the casualty patient of acute stroke are being cheated with thrombolytic therapy which is available only at a few centres in northern India.

The state of art neuro clinic critical care is being offered to serious patients. The department also runs specialty clinics in the form of epilepsy clinic, headache clinic and movement disorder clinic every day. Specialised neurological investigations like nerve conduction studies, electromyography, evoked potentials, and EEG for critically ill patients on life support system are being performed daily on routine basis. The facilities of 3 Tesla MRI, 256 slice CT scan, 4 vessel DSA and PET-CT scan are also available which give higher resolution of images and is available only at a few centres in Northern India. The department has also acquired a 'Transcranial Magnetic Stimulator' (TMS) machine which has therapeutic and research potential for many neurological and psychotic disorders. The institute has started a DM neurology course from 2024 session and the first batch of students of DM neurology have joined making it as one of the first private medical colleges in north India to start post-doctoral courses in Neurology.
