NOURISHING GENERATIONS: SRMS INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES SPREADS AWARENESS DURING WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK

Breastfeeding is more than nourishment; it’s nature’s first bond, a shield for health, and a gift that shapes a lifetime. To mark World Breastfeeding Week, SRMS Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), Bareilly, through its Department of Community Medicine, turned awareness into action, touching lives across communities with talks, camps, competitions, and creative performances.

Following the WHO theme ‘Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems’, the week began with an Awareness Talk at UHTC led by Prof Dr Priyanka Kumar, Dr RC Gupta (MOIC), and JR Dr Payal Verma, guiding 40 beneficiaries on breastfeeding benefits, maternal care, and infant health.

A Health Camp at Atapatti Janubi village under the Family Adoption Program, guided by Dr Rupali Gupta, Assistant Professor, Community Medicine alongside JRs Dr Neelesh Singh & Dr Divyanshu Singh brought free check-ups, medicines, and RBS tests to 239+ patients. Meanwhile, MBBS Batch 2023 staged a powerful Skit busting myths, promoting exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months, and demonstrating proper techniques.

At RHTC, Associate Professor Dr Ruchi Arun and JR Dr Divyanshu Singh sensitized 30 pregnant and lactating mothers on early initiation of breastfeeding within an hour of birth and continuation up to 2 years; a message echoed in health talks at SRMS Telemedicine Bus and Bhairpura Centre. Adding a creative edge, MBBS Batch 2023 showcased Posters highlighting breastfeeding’s role in maternal and infant health, judged by Assistant Professor Dr Abhijeet & team. A spirited Quiz Competition tested knowledge in four exciting rounds, with Anushka’s team bagging first place and Mahboob’s team second. The week was graced by Dr Bindu Garg, Dean UG; Professor Dr Sandhya (Department of Pediatrics), and esteemed faculty, aiming to nurture healthier beginnings.
