Department of General Medicine, one of the biggest department of the institute works with a core mission of "Quality Care" which includes management of Critically ill patients, Preventive Medicine, Palliative and Geriatric care along with high standards of Education and Clinical Research. This is accomplished by an experienced faculty with excellent professional ability, enthusiasm and a commitment to teaching.

The department has 220 beds and functional 06 units. It caters all variety of Medical patients with full fledged Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Endocrinology units along with Critical care unit of 12 beds in ICU and 07 beds in HDU, 12 beds in CCU & Specialty clinics like diabetic clinic, Headache, Epilepsy and Hypertension clinics are also running.
All high standard investigations and procedures are being performed in the department which includes CAG, Angioplasty, Fetal Echo, Thrombolysis, permanent pacemaker implantation, ASD Device closure, IABP (Intra Aortic Baloon Pump), hemodialysis, SLED, Plasmapharesis, Native and transplant kidney biopsy, Arteriovenous fistula creation, Body composition analysis, EEG, EMG, NCV, Decremental test, VEP, BAER, SSEP, Upper Gl and Sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, Fibroscan, Push Enteroscopy. The Nephrology Unit has also starting doing CRRT and kidney transplantation with successful results. Gasro unit is doing ERCP with good results and plan is to start Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) in near future for better diagnosis and treatment to patients.

Department has 12 postgraduates seats intake yearly with high standards of postgraduate and undergraduate teaching with a focus on research work. Department has been conducting various conferences since 2009. Medicine Updates have been organized every alternate year.. Department boosts of organizing National, state chapters and regional conferences regularly to name a few- UP Chapter API (UP/APICON) in year 2017/2023. UP Chapters CSI in 2019, NEPHROCON in 2023, In April 2025, first Women Physician Conference of India (WOPICON) was held by the department with huge success. Many awareness Health program along with free camps are being organized on regular basis on World HTN day, World Health Day, World Diabetes Day, World HIV Day etc.

The department also focuses on research work, apart from thesis work, various non thesis projects are being carried out every year with publications in National/International Journals. The faculty and residents also have been actively participating in various State and national conferences with residents securing awards in these conferences. The faculty also contributing to chapters in various reputed books. The department boasts of its residents achieving academic excellence in PG University results with one of its Residents receiving Gold Medal in Medicine in Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University Convocation & also good ranks in NEET-SS in first attempt. In year 2020 year of COVID pendemic, the department has shown its active participation in management/treatment of patients and formation of various protocols. The faculty and residents have been posted in corona wards and have shown their enthusiasm in management of COVID patients.
